2010 Nissan Cube SL

There's two things you need to know about the 2010 Nissan Cube. First, you can get one for less than $15,000. Second, if you're a guy you'll likely be asked why you're driving your daughter or girlfriend's car. The first one is easy to live with, the second may be tough if you spend any time watching pro football, drinking Bud Light or enjoy bronco busting buddy films full of bleary eyed nostalgia and kick ass 'splosions.

Image aside, the 2010 Nissan Cube is actually a very useful little car. The interior is surprisingly spacious, the ride is smooth and thanks to a constantly variable transmission (CVT) that never really "shifts" gears the Cube remains very quiet inside too. For $14,710 you can get a base S version of the Cube but that comes with a manual transmission - the 1.8 liter engine that comes in all Cubes isn't especially refined so the owners who opt for the shift it yourself transmission will likely have a different experience. Even with the CVT, there is some engine noise under hard acceleration. Power is more than adequate for a compact wagon/crossover.

To make living with the 2010 Cube easy, there's a ton of options including push button start, iPod connection, Rockford-Fosgate stereo, interior lighting kit and rear parking sensors. All work well and all are worth checking off on the options sheet.

Even without all the options, the Cube's seats are comfortable, the driving position is just right and the rear cargo area is adequte. For added convenience, the rear seats recline plus they slide forward and back.

If you need a Chevy Tahoe, the Cube will not work as a substitute. It's not really a truck and the ground clearance is minimal. On the other hand, if you want a spacious city hauler or a commuter car that's not just another economy car, the Cube is worth checking out. Ultimately, the 2010 Nissan Cube is more stylish than the Scion xB and the cute theme has been taken a few steps beyond that of the Kia Soul.
