2010 Detriot Auto Show - Mini Beachcomber

Bookmark and Share

Here's a little preview of the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Mini's Beachcomber concept seems a little out of place given the freezing temps in Michigan but Mini knows the ice will thaw and a warm Upper Peninsula weekend might be the perfect venue for an open air Mini.

Mini didn't provide any powertrain details but the goal here is likely NOT speed or acceleration. Think of this Beachcomber concept as the spiritual reincarnation of past automotive oddities like the Fiat Jolly or Mini Moke. Inside, there's plenty of durable plastic and some air vents have been turned into audio speakers - you know, to keep the beach party going or whatever. The Mini Beachcomber will likely be one of the more interesting concepts at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show but there's a little bit of reality behind it. Mini is planning a four-dour, crossover SUV like version of the Cooper and this concept is sort of paving the way.
